What is NCC - National Cadet Corps?
The NCC in India was formed with the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. It was raised on 15 July 1948. A committee headed by Pandit Hradaya Nath Kunjru recommended a cadet organization to be established in schools and colleges at a national level. During 1962 Sino-Indian war to meet the requirement of the Nation, the NCC training was made compulsory in 1963. DAV College Sec 10 Chandigarh adopted NCC in the year 1964 when Late Sh. Triloki Nath Ji was the Head of the Institution. NCC laid greater stress on developing quality of leadership and officer like qualities and greater importance was given to other areas like social service and youth management. Previous ANO who contributed in the upliftment of NCC in the college were 2nd LT Y P Gupta (1964-1966), Major M M Singh , Captain K K Sawal, LT S C Mahajan, Captain O P Kohli, Captain Swarn Chaudhary, LT N S Parmar (1988-1989), Major R P Singh (1989-2017). NCC was introduced in the college to develop character, comradeship, the ideal of service and capacity for leadership in young men and women. Also to provide service training to young men and women so as to stimulate interest among them in the defence of the country. The motto of the Corps is “Unity and Discipline” which may well be explained as “To obey God’s orders as delivered by conscience that is duty. To obey man’s order as issued by rightful authority that is discipline. Thus NCC is a youth organisation which provides a healthy outlet for the energy of the youth by providing opportunities for development of a spirit of leadership, comradeship and patriotism.
